Silviculture Workers Needed

The Government has an initiative to plant 1 billion trees.

To achieve this target, there needs to be a steady supply of workers who are keen to learn and work in the Forestry industry.

Free Training in Silviculture

For Taranaki Work and Income Job Seekers, we can offer a free Silviculture training program. This training will last a maximum of 4 weeks and is provided by a local Silviculture employer. You will continue to receive your benefit while being trained. Once you achieve the required competency level, the employer can consider you for paid employment.

Training will include

- how to plant tree saplings
- how to prune smaller tree's
- how to observe health and safety practices while working in forestry
- theory and practical unit standards in silviculture operations

Pre-employment requirements for this industry

1. You need a reasonable standard of fitness
2. You must be able to pass a Drug Test and on-going random drug testing
3. Criminal convictions will be considered on a case by case basis

You will also need to

- get to a central pick-up point on the outskirts of Inglewood

If you hold a current Restricted or Full licence and have your own transport, then this could be an opportunity for you to move into full time employment.

This employment opportunity will be as a Self Employed Contractor. You will not be paid an hourly rate of pay but paid on the basis of trees planted and/or pruned.
